Judy, as you observed, much of the MEMS activity is currently at the R&D level. But I dug a little deeper and found some interesting developments...

Turns out that a MEMS thread was started on SI just last week. The author is pretty well qualified -- he leads an engineering team at JPL that helped design the Mars Pathfinder Mission. See: "MEMS - The Next Electronics Revolution?:" Subject 17339

As mentioned on the new MEMS thread, ADI has commercialized a MEMS airbag sensor. See: "Analog Devices Dedicates New FAB to Micromachined Products -- Analog Devices dedicates a new MEMs fab to its widely accepted auto airbag crash sensors and to further development of its proprietary micromachining technology." (2/14/96) analog.com

Also, on the Ultratech Stepper thread I learned that UTEK is making a push in the MEMS market. At the following link, click on "Micromachining" under both "PRODUCTS" and "MARKETS". ultratech.com

The MEMS products that have been commerialized so far are barely the tip of the iceberg. Hopefully the new MEMS thread will develop into a quality source of information -- the goal is to identify and discuss MEMS startup companies.
