Yes Clinton sometimes goes a little too far. But even those Clinton statements are not lies, they're simply spin and biased opinion. Was Obama always against the Iraq War? Well yes for the most part but right after the invasion he did voice support the the effort. Of course that could have just been support for our troops, not for the whole idea of it. So Clinton spun. he cherry-picked a few details. That's typical in politics. In fact Obama said as much.

The backlash against the Clintons really isn't about what they said, it's about the fact most democrats want change, not another CLinton administration. And if Edwards teams up with Obama they win. So expect that to happen. Edwards can't win himself now anyway so he might as well make a deal. Expect that after Super Tuesday. Then the DEms will unite around Obama-Edwards.

BTW, ROmney is running into the same thing. He is Bush III and a lot of people don't like that. They want change. Real change. Which is why McCain, Huckabee and Ron Paul are combined the majority in the GOP now.
