Probably a way of dumping the fab Intel no longer needs without getting into trouble over the subsidies when it closes down. That whole Numonyx thing smells like a giant writeoff to me.

Good observation.

I wonder if the fab shell in Italy that STM is contributing has similar strings attached, and STM is getting rid of it through Numnonyx.
