Looks like a good approach.
I am not real sensitive to thinly traded stocks, my foreign holdings trend to thin activity. I'll try to follow the volumes more closely.
The use of Backtest values vs auto checking per stock, has shown a degrade in return for me. Did you run a Lab Test contest to establish the best for your mix of holdings.
If you need slower, but improved signals, you can run a Lab Test where daily signals are verified by weekly signals.

Your comment on not shorting mirrow my results. I suspect the s/w was unintentionally designed for up situations, not decreasing.
