with compaq beginning the direct sales model and with the necessity
for not antagonizing the vre and channel people too much, is this the
right time for cpq to make a higher offer for gateway that will allow
direct sales with the gateway brand and ease "compaqs" into it? the 4th
quarter will take care of itself (always 30-35% higher eps than third)
and gateway will allow for a very powerful first half of 1998 (not to
mention tandem integration)??
