Some religious cults do in fact blindly stick to their faith, even when presented with overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Jim Jones and his followers come to mind.

Much of the environmental movement falls under the same kind of spell. Green supporters have largely abandoned science in favour of sensationalism. Their zero-tolerance, fear mongering campaigns often deprive the world of clean energy, and contribute to making America more dependent on foreign sources of oil. Unfounded opinion is accepted as fact. The visceral reaction you demonstrated in response to an interesting film, is testament to being caught in a similar web of thinking.

To many green environmentalists, humans are characterized as a cancer on the Earth. They project a naive vision of returning to the supposedly utopian existence in the garden of Eden, forgetting that people lived to an average age of 35, and suffered starvation and cold.

They are also anti-free enterprise, despite the fact that communism and state socialism have failed. Just about anyone engaging in private business, especially if they are successful, is characterized as greedy and lacking in morality. They are content to set themselves up as the critics of free enterprise while offering nothing but idealistic platitudes.

Lastly, they are against democracy, democracy, is rejected as being too human.

The planetary police answer to no one but Mother Earth herself and their spiritual God Gaia.

Some call this religion Pantheism.
