Joules and Watts have been used since steam engines went out of fashion.

Horse power and foot pounds are sometimes quoted but never used for calculations.

Unless your really old fashioned.

Even in most countries where SI is the norm, the horsepower is used. The newest SI unit is metric horsepower. For industrial engines Watt is used in these countries. Where the english system is used horsepower has always been predominate. For horsepower the work is defined as Ft-Lbs not Joules, Watts are only used here for engines that will power generators. Watts was the original power measurement for steam engines. Mr. Watt came up with another system where he measured the power of a horse and converted Ft-Lb/min to horsepower.

You really don't know what you are talking about. And you and neolib have revealed that you are not American or British. I am pulling this stuff out of my head and some of this hasn't been pulled out of their in years. You and neolib apparently keep referring to Wiki which is correct but only as use in physics, not necessarily in engineering.
