Food budgets are bigger, but not by much and their effect on overall inflation is small compared to housing, health care, etc.

There are lags, but there is also margin compression.

Inflation exists, just not worrisome inflation, and the future indicators are pointing down.

I've seen shadowstats, I just don't think they've cornered the market in truth. Some of the changes in the way inflation is calculated are widely believed to increase the accuracy of its measurement, not decrease it. For example, prior to 90's the consumption-expenditure weights were updated every 10 years, afterwards this was changed to every 2. So for example the cpi in 1990 was based on a basked based on buying patterns in 1982. Currently this basket is updated every 2 years.
