Well we have an outsider and successful business man trying to run and being turned down in favor of yet another pork spending insider nasty SOB who isn't even a Republican except in name. It tells me a lot about the voters to be honest.

I think the scrutiny of the candidates lives and personal lives discourage a lot of qualified people from running. And we don't have citizen legislators anymore but rather professional politicians. And the what should be unconstitutional McCain/Feingold guarantee the incumbent act this also creates a problem.

So in answer to your statement we do not get the best for these offices anymore. And more often then not we end up using our vote against someone rather then for someone.
