If it is rampant we should be yelling it. Even if it's been driven underground, and is now just generalized scorn. Sure, we're glad people of color are not on the back of the bus. We're glad people of color could go to "white" schools, if only they lived in white neighborhoods. You can still cry if you go to an inner city school, though. I'm not sure the kids are safer now in black schools than when they went to "separate" schools. Quite frankly I'm not sure the "improvements" are as spectacular as you think they are. When you look at the number of black men in prison, and you look at predominantly black schools, and the achievement gap, it's easy to think that some of the "progress" has been partly cosmetic. Kind of like "letting" women in to the work force, and then making them raise the kids too. WOW- now women have two jobs instead of one- and that's...equality? Gosh. What a wonderful world.
