SI Rag--Profiles in the News, Lee Cooper; The early years.
Many of us here at SI have long admired Lee Coopers trading skills [his use of Sondo and TA Trader for shorting DDIM remains a classic].
SI Rag is now seeking to take a look at the formative years for Mr. Cooper and how he became the legendary "Hick". We have by great fortune recieved some detailed information sent by his elementary school teacher, Joan Waters.
Thank you for writing me and asking about one of my old students Lee Cooper. I remember Lee very well indeed. Let me start by asking you a question: Did you ever hear the rumor that there may have been some Yankee in Lee's background? Though Lee always denied it I have often wondered if it were true. Lee always seemed less inbred than the rest of my students. Indeed in the thirty years I taught here I would say Lee was easily the brightest student I ever had. The standards around here weren't too high to say the least but Lee was my best pupil, Lord help me what a thought that is. Lee was my first and only student to make third grade by age twelve and achieved higher education than anyone I ever taught {eighth grade}. He was also one of my best behaved too, I usually only had to beat the tar out of him once a week or so dispite his parents urging me "Don't spare the rod".
Another thing I noted about Lee is that he always seemed to achieve his goals. I had my students that reached sixth grade write out their goals for their life and kept them so I could see how well they did in reaching them. Here are Lees and how he did: "I wants to graderates eittgh grade, I wants ter nail Beckee Gipson, I wants ter get drunk alot, I wants ter move out of this hear cave an inter a tar paper shak or even a hovel of mah own, I wants ter invist in Wall streeet and beets them Yankee monee grubbers at there own game, I wants a pikup truk with a rifle rak."
Lee, though hard work and his being gifted at least for this area attained all of these goals including the one about Becky Gibson who was the local preachers daughter and the only virgin above the age of twelve around here. When I saw Becky's goal of: "I wanna loose my verchew cause nobody will marry me til I been tried out" I knew Lee had a chance at his goal. And sure enough Lee was named one of the eight possible fathers to Becky's first illegitimate child.
