I think they less got whacked than they went ex dividend $5+ of capital gains and $.70 of income in November.

Which shows one problem with this fund. The fund started in the late 1920s and has huge capital gains that force shareholders to pay taxes whenever they sell a stock. So, I wouldn't buy it anywhere other than in and IRA or other tax advantaged portfolio. And, right now, I don't like the big stocks in the fund. They have chosen them very well and avoided most of the disasters, and have some large intl. positions, but I prefer smaller intl. stocks right now.
