Drivers licenses for immigrants

The subject that tripped up Clinton and Obama returns! Clinton misquoted herself from the Philadelphia debate on drivers licenses. She said tonight that she tried to support Governor Eliot Spitzer of New York in his plan to allow illegal immigrants to have drivers' licenses, "although I didn't agree with it personally." But that was not how she put it when the subject came up in the Democratic debate in Philadelphia at the end of October. She said then that plan "made a lot of sense," but refused to take a position on it one way or the other. On November 1, her campaign put out the following statement: "Senator Clinton supports governors like Governor Spitzer who believe they need such a measure to deal with the crisis caused by this administration's failure to pass comprehensive immigration reform." No word on her being against the idea personally.
