You have just described the SEC (Single Edge Connector) module that the Pentium II utilizes, which in turn interfaces to a motherboard via a SLOT 1 edge connector!

You independently came to the same technical conclusion that Intel's engineers reached 18 months ago!

Yet you question whither the SEC/SLOT 1?

You yourself have invented it - albeit, a little late!
