Hi Ross and others, Chris isn't capable of driving me away. It's been months I haven't reacted or responded to his offensive posts. I just ignore it and occasionally get a laugh. What bothers me is all the people who respond and therefore encourage him. This recently has taken up much of the posts around here. I voted against banning him after explaining his personality and value to SI (both positives & negatives). I also told everyone how to deal with him and his posts. But Geo's post did a better job than I could have ever done! My vote wasn't to defend Chris. I voted based on principles. Chris has totally crossed the line on many occasions, but the line is vague and subjective. Once we start banning people, we would find ourselves in a difficult spot in the future. People like him are part of society and will be part of the net. If you won't invite him to your party, stop reacting to his offensive posts. Let me say this loud and clear. YOU WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO REASON WITH HIM OR HAVE A RATIONAL EXCHANGE. Don't be concerned about him being able to spread misinformation via his posts. Jim, perhaps this was what you were concerned about. Give people some credit, anyone with half a brain would know not to pay attention after reading a handful of his posts! I know him better than anyone around SI and have tried and failed. By reacting to his offensive posts you are sending him yet another invitation to the party. If you follow this rule he may decide to clean up his posting style and perhaps people would let him take part in the discussions in the future. There have been many who posted on this topic. Please accept the above as my response to all of you. No need to reply to this message, let's just move on. I am not interested in banning anyone from SI including Chris.
