If both parents are working, then presumably they are "working" and not parenting.

And during the hours when the kids are in school, they don't need parenting. No reason the parents shouldn't be working. No worse than sitting around popping bon-bons and watching soaps. Or if there's someone else doing the parenting during those working hours.

During the time period when women were entering the work force in larger numbers, we also lost track of our extended families largely through mobility. That was a parenting resource lost due to other than mom getting a job. It's not all about moms working rather than staying home.
