We continue to disagree. Kids need parenting before school, and immediately after school. I don't see too many jobs that accommodate that, nor do I think it likely those jobs will suddenly spring in to existence. If they could, I would have a different position for school age children, but they won't, so I don't need to modify.
Since the magical world of such jobs does not really exist, save for being a teacher, I'm not sure why you brought it up. Shall we also discuss the idea that if we could magically put children in a coma during working hours then parents could also go to work?
It's mostly about moms staying home. Mostly moms parent. In all the families I have ever knows mostly moms parent- with dads playing the crucial role of disciplinarian and male role model.
While patriarchal arrangements in domestic relations may annoy you, we are biologically suited to them. Mothers are the mainstay for children. Mothers have thousands of years of evolution behind them to make them nurturers. Does that mean they all are? No. We have thousands of years of evolution pushing us to be more intelligent, and yet there are still stupid people- but in general, most people are fairly clever, and most moms are pretty nurturing, and for me, that's what it's about.
And I've no idea why you bring up bon bon popping moms. That sounds an awful lot like Hillary with her "moms who stay home to bake cookies". It's pretty insulting. Those who have children volunteer in their children's schools, volunteer in churches, clean their houses, do the shopping for their families (so their kids don't have to eat Mc Donalds because mom's too tired to cool- thus helping to make said kids obese.)
IMO one of the great contributors to obesity in this country is working mothers. They simply don't have the energy to cook, so the families are eating out more. You can see that if you merely compare the data between France and America- in France mothers work less, and cook more.
I prefer so much about mothers staying home you just aren't going to get anywhere. We do NOT want the same things in life, nor do we value the same things. In this case, that makes us want completely different arrangements in society. You have your way, but I will never ever agree your way is positive for society. |
