Christians have changed a little from Contantine and Torquemada's time. Some sources claim Constantine himself never became a Christian. Other sources claim he did. Not having been alive at the time (yes, children, even Lazarus Long has a finite lifetime :-), I am agnostic on the subject. :-)
BUT: There are more recent instances. The IRA. Serbia and Bosnia. Now some might claim the causes of these wars were not religious. OTOH, historians still argue the causes of wars that occurred thousands of years ago. Wars can have multiple causes, it seems, and sometimes part of the mix is religious. And the causes are disputed fractiously. Bush claims the Iraq war was to bring down a tyrant. The Democrats claim it was over oil. Islamofascists claim it is religious - and aimed at them.
Tens of millions of Christians believe abortion is murder, but you can count the number who have commited violence over this on your fingers. And those small number are not considered heroes but criminals by the rest. Do you question the religious motivation of the killers? And those killers ARE considered heroes and martyrs by some Christians. "Last Wednesday night, outside the Florida State Prison, there was a crowd of 50 anti-abortion fanatics. They proclaimed the executed physician-murderer Paul Hill to be a martyr too.
In the early morning of July 29, 1994, Hill, a former Presbyterian minister, confronted Dr. John Bayard Britton at the Pensacola Florida Ladies Center.
Hill was carrying a 12-gauge shotgun. First, he murdered retired U.S. Air Force officer James Barrett, age 74, who had simply driven Dr. Britton to this abortion clinic. Then he murdered Dr. Britton. " worldnetdaily.com
But that's their opinion. What's yours? Is Hill a murderer or a martyr? |
