Mainstream medicine is working hard on discrediting no-flush niacin, or inositol hexanicotinate, which I found helped increase my HDL markedly and decrease my cholesterol. This is co-incident with the promotion of a patented formula which releases niacin slowly Niaspan does pretty well what no-flush niacin does, with some differentiation with regard to elevated niacin levels in the blood with Niaspan. Increase effectiveness given by increased niacin levels may also increase the risk of hepatitis.

There is of course no mention in this propaganda of the German research which indicated reduction of cholesterol levels overnite using inositol hexanicotinate.

Individual susceptibility to adverse effects cause by cholesterol reducing substances indicates that liver enzyme panels should be done regularly by statin and niacin patients. If the liver enzymes shoot up suddenly, such medications should be discontinued. All is not lost however as it has been demonstrated that a high anti-oxidant diet and reduction of exogenous (dietary) cholesterol will mitigate homocysteneuric conditions such as hyperlipidemia. I recommend sticking to fish and beans as a protein sources and using plentiful vegetable sterols in such extreme circumstances.
