The MISSION ACCOMPLISHED banner was up for the members of the USS Abraham LINCOLN who were ending their lengthy tour & heading home.

Holy crap! I must be getting old. I was on the Lincoln in 98, previously I was stationed at VS-35 (Blue Wolves), the squadron that flew Bush on board. I knew 2 of the crewman that flew the plane on board. Yet since I saw the footage when the story was first released,,,well I suppose I was a bit in awe to have gotten so close to history and in that state I overlooked the obvious.... I never questioned it.

We had that very same sign, bet there's a picture of it in my cruise book, I'll have to look it up later. I've got to pack go back east to NC for a week, helping my father get back home......

But it never occurred to me that that sign very well could've been put up by the crew signifying the end of cruise but it makes perfect sense and was a tradition that we too did at the end of ours. Nice catch, wonder if anyone ever reported that side of the story....
