What are the "threats"? Let's examine them.

Good place to start IMO. What are the threats and what are the interests of the USA in any particular issue of foriegn affairs should be a starting place for any discussion on this thread.

The interests of the USA fall in two categories. The principled interests and the strategic interests. How we defend both without allowing one to be trumped by the other is generally where objective discussion should be centered. Unfortunately we usually begin and end by attacking the particular characters of the players? If they are corrupt that may be appropriate but unless all are corrupt it should be a relatively rare topic here. If they are all or mostly all corrupt then our topic should be how to rid the system of corruption, not which crook to throw in with.
