The problem is, the collapsing financial system is the base for all other activity. It is not just a case of bank and brokerage stock prices coming down, it is a question of whether or not our doofus financial system can support itself. My guess is the big uglies in energy can support themselves with cash flow, at least until Dumbya and Cheney are out of office. A lot of tech cos. can, too. But nearly everyone else, even if they are not considered capital intensive, could have problems getting money. Think of the odds of a hot biotech offering from a discredited brokerage house. And not everyone can go to Goldman for capital.
