| Corrected:(Note i watched "Network" last night on TCM. Inspired me to a rant. iwant to Howard Beale, i want a TV show:)
RegardsTaxRebates:Another fault(aside from the politics of it) is the intended function of the tax rebate as all the spinning communicates to the public, is NOT to help you payoff debt, NOT to use as a saving, but to get out their and spend it on consumer goods.

The message, JQP, you MUST spend this on consumer goods to keep the economy from recession and keep you from losing your job.

So again the powers are saying we don't care that you are in debt, in fact we want you to stay there, go deeper in debt if necessary , this for our country. To use this to payoff debt may be good for you but not the economy, and you exist only to remain the most wildly insane consuming people in world history.

We don't want you to be individuals trying to get their life in order, we want you to be Pigs, oink oink, more consumption more consumption, oink, oink.

Now in Japan, their market went down and down for more than a decade, but the japanese people were then saving, the average Japanese household in 2002 had the equivalent of 100k dollars in savings(that is when the dollar was still strong ascompared to now)

And they did this through frugaliy, they had frugality clubs, it became a passion among the japanese.

So the people SURVIVED even though their stock market was going to hell.

But here one is expectedto be spendthrift and also load up on stock.

In 1980, 5% of american household were investedin the market, now about 54% of households invested in the market.

We have created to monsters, a society that MUST consume like Pigs, but is also dependent on its stock market.

(No society was ever meant to be made dependent on its stock market, but we have created such a society, why?

Because that is what the Mutual Fund industry and WS wants, it is mo money, mo money for themselves.

One can hear some of this Big Business propaganda in Ned Beatys(asJensen) famous speech in "Network", in what was his only scene in the movie.

Peter Finch(playing HowardBeale) had become hugely popular on TV saying 'It is all just B.S. and lies, we are but the flunkies of the Big Corporate world.' Mr.Jensen calls him to a huge room, with a Mastersof The Earth ultralong conference table and Beatty (Jensen) gets at one end, standing, and Finch(Beale) at the other end sitting conference.

Beatty/Jensen had been sweet talking and charming until this happens, as the boldface is to signify Beatty/Jensen is speaking LOUD and with furious force, one need know movie isin context of 1976, but the movie is UltraRelevant to the NOW--in fact it has proven to be prophetic.

<<<<Jensen: You have meddled with the primal forces of nature, Mr. Beale, and I won't have it!! Is that clear?! You think you've merely stopped a business deal. That is not the case. The Arabs have taken billions of dollars out of this country, and now they must put it back! It is ebb and flow, tidal gravity! It is ecological balance!

You are an old man who thinks in terms of nations and peoples. There are no nations. There are no peoples. There are no Russians. There are no Arabs. There are no third worlds. There is no West. There is only one holistic system of systems, one vast and immane, interwoven, interacting, multivariate, multi-national dominion of dollars. Petro-dollars, electro-dollars, multi-dollars, Reichmarks, rins, rubles, pounds, and shekels.

It is the international system of currency which determines the totality of life on this planet. That is the natural order of things today. That is the atomic and subatomic and galactic structure of things today! And YOU have meddled with the primal forces of nature, and YOU WILL ATONE!
( he then lowers his voice)
Am I getting through to you, Mr. Beale?

You get up on your little twenty-one inch screen and howl about America and democracy. There is no America. There is no democracy. There is only IBM and ITT and AT&T and DuPont, Dow, Union Carbide, and Exxon. Those are the nations of the world today.

What do you think the Russians talk about in their councils of state -- Karl Marx? They get out their linear programming charts, statistical decision theories, minimax solutions, and compute the price-cost probabilities of their transactions and investments, just like we do.

We no longer live in a world of nations and ideologies, Mr. Beale. The world is a college of corporations, inexorably determined by the immutable bylaws of business. The world is a business, Mr. Beale. It has been since man crawled out of the slime. And our children will live, Mr. Beale, to see that perfect world in which there's no war or famine, oppression or brutality -- one vast and ecumenical holding company, for whom all men will work to serve a common profit, in which all men will hold a share of stock, all necessities provided, all anxieties tranquilized, all boredom amused.

And I have chosen you, Mr. Beale, to preach this evangel.

 Beale: But why me?

Jensen: Because you're on television, dummy. Sixty million people watch you every night of the week, Monday through Friday. >>

Note:Peter Finch got The Oscar for Best Actor posthumously. This was the first time an actress or actor got an oscar posthumously. He died one month before the Academy Awards.
