What is being overlooked is that expenditures are not the whole equation. Revenue is the other part. We are still running large deficits by any standard and during times of plenty. We are supposed toby storing nuts for hte winter months (which are upon us). That is because of the lost revenue from the irresponable tax cuts on the rich and corporations, ccording to the congressional budget Office. And very few think the tax cuts to the rich did diddly squat. Just one of a plethora of myths the neo cns like to spin. The neo cons will say anything as they have learned a lot of the public either wants to believe thier nonsense e.g. liberals are the anti Christ-lol, or they just will not get it e.g. 9/11 and al queda is linked to Iraq. There were no al queda in Iraq until we got there.
