Spansion Licenses Discretix's CryptoFlash(TM) for Its MirrorBit(R) HD-SIM(TM) Solutions
BARCELONA, Spain and SUNNYVALE, Calif., Feb 04, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- MOBILE WORLD CONGRESS -- Spansion Inc. (Nasdaq: SPSN), the world's largest pure-play provider of Flash memory solutions, today announced it has licensed Discretix's CryptoFlash(TM) Security Platform to be integrated with its MirrorBit(R) HD-SIM(TM) solutions. Spansion and Discretix are designing a new set of multi-chip MirrorBit HD-SIM solutions, which will bring significant cost, security and production advantages to the high-density SIM card market.
"With the growing proliferation of multi-media rich handsets, new wireless applications and content capabilities, security has become one of the most important requirements for mobile phones in 2008," said Edo Ganot, EVP Sales and Business Development of Discretix. "By combining the advanced benefits of our CryptoFlash with both of Spansion's MirrorBit HD-SIM product families, we will enable more solutions for the wireless market with our protected memory technologies."
Discretix is a leader in embedded security solutions for Flash memory and mobile devices. In addition to MirrorBit HD-SIM, Spansion's Flash memory-based handset security solution -- Spansion Secure, includes the Discretix CryptoFlash Security Platform and is designed to protect valuable consumer data, content and code stored on mobile handsets. Both solutions integrate Discretix's cryptographic engines' fast and highly secured computation capability for authentication protocols, data encryption and decryption with Spansion(R) Flash memory.
"By extending our relationship with Discretix to the SIM, we are reinforcing our commitment to continually deliver advanced technology and added value solutions to customers," said Marco Roveda, VP Marketing in the Security and Advanced Technology Division at Spansion. "By leveraging Discretix's cryptography expertise and Spansion's innovative MirrorBit technology, we can introduce new families of secure, mobile products and expand the market opportunities for our customers."
Availability and Roadmap
The new MirrorBit HD-SIM multi-chip solution, with an integrated Security Platform from Discretix, is planned to sample in Q4 2008, with production targeted for Q1 2009. Based on an advanced microcontroller designed by Spansion, the solution offers several communication interfaces including USB (high speed, full speed and interchip), MMC/SD and Single Wire Protocol (SWP), in addition to ISO 7816. Bundled with either Spansion MirrorBit NOR or MirrorBit ORNAND2(TM) Flash memory, it will enable a wide range of densities, offering a few Megabytes to several Gigabytes of storage capacity on SIM cards to mobile users. MirrorBit ORNAND2 delivers the performance and cost advantages of NAND technology with the compelling cost structure of 300mm wafers.
MirrorBit HD-SIM product families provide high-end security features and target Common Criteria EAL4+ certification to enable the adoption of secure mobile services such as mobile payment, mobile enterprise and mobile TV.
