Anyone can come up with a design specifically intended to "break" the Xilinx architecture. Gatefield isn't the first and won't be the last. For the other 99.9% of the applications wold-wide, the Xilinx architecture is among the best. Also, they (Gatefield) are years behind on the software (development systems) side and that is the other big piece of the puzzle. Third is a huge installed base of Xilinx users - that's why Xilinx is #1 and Gatefield is not on the radar.

Also, I doubt that they compared Xilinx's latest - since about every month Xilinx has a newer or faster product. At this pace, they will leave everyone behind.

This is not speculation or conjecture - I work in the industry.
