SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- XL Capital Ltd. (XL) reported a $1.06 billion fourth-quarter net loss late Tuesday, within the loss forecast issued by the Bermuda-based reinsurer in January. XL said its net loss was $6.01 per ordinary share, vs. net income of $471.1 million, or $2.62 a share, a year earlier. Excluding net realized gains and losses, XL said it made $117.1 million, or 66 cents a share, in the period. The results were dented by previously announced charges of $1.5 billion, related to credit market conditions. Excluding these charges, net income available to ordinary shareholders was $439.9 million, or $2.48 a share, XL said. End of Story
