i oft have heard/seen/read in the aftermath of some ghastly tragedy some poor victim of random chaos say "Well God controls all events. This must be a testing of my faith"
Though, i have changed over time from my younger days of reacting in a manner oft like this: "MamaMia!, how in the hell can you believe in that? You believe that then you believe in a monster--a particularly sadistic one at that."

In my dotage:) i find i now see these people are just too terrified to think their tragedy was just random chaos. The idea of there being no meaning to a tragic event is just too much i feel for many to handle.
But then i am of the Reality Bites School, which is sort of a vestigial scrap left over from when i once ages ago read of stoicism and so on and blahblahblah:) max
