I guess it would also really depend on the lifetime limit of the policy. I don't really know what the average is, I've seen 1M and some 5M limits, perhaps Peter or Tim can comment on what is most common. Other thing is, I've read stories of folks going bust with insurance because the copays become so onerous that it sinks them. I was blown away by the costs of some of the new cancer drugs (is it Avastin by Genentech?) that cost thousands per dose.

PS - I just did a quick Google search on Avastin and found some stuff on it, $4400 per dose, 10 month treatment, close to 100k per year... One of the posts on the link I provided says the drug added on average five months to the survival rate of colon cancer, but that is another issue....
