Can't disagree with your second sentence, as far as it goes. It's factual, I'll give you that. But it doesn't really demonstrate that you understand the situation clearly.

Let's use an analogy. Say I am already spending more money than I make each month. My credit card bills are piling up. I have a one car. Then I buy a second car. Each dollar I spend on payments, insurance, and maintenance on the old car adds just as much to my monthly deficit as each dollar spent on the new car. But any rational observer would question my purchase of the second car in that scenario, and would say that it is more to blame for my escalating debt.
