And last I checked "normal reporters" don't build houses, have contractors licenses, or develop land. They write articles. Lots of them. With catchy headlines and quotes. What I do know from the small business owners in the house building business is that the banks are the roadblocks right now. Financing is tough to find for small spec builders. Demand is there at certain price levels, but they can't compete without capital. And they really don't want to compete when the big national builders are dumping inventory and subsidizing interest rate buydowns.
