Recent study of triple play business shows some interesting data. CableTV has 55% of the market. SatelliteTV has about 305. and the rest(wealthy clients) is for telcos to grab. FTTH(Verizon) is better received by the customers than FTTN(AT&T).

The lowdown is that satelliteTV is cheaper per month and you get free equipment. So, customer retention is better than cableTV. But it is not triple play.

CableTV has retention of customer problems as a whole. 30% of customers will drop their services for any reason, Relocation, lacking content, and changing life style. Currently, cableTV people have content improvement in 2008, with 6,000 on-demand channels to satisfy any customer in the long run.

Telco has large budget to install fiber optics network, financed by telephone customers with ever increasing monthly bills. Fiber to the house cost $1500.00 per customer. It could eventually approach 10 gbps data transfer. Verizon has $109.99/mo service contracted for 2 years, with a free 19" LCD HDTV.

CableTV has universal edgeQAM with 160 mbps data transfer rate, which can be an entry level service. Software improvement can increase data rate later. With 160 mbps service, cableTV will gain internet broadband and telephony customers. Revenue could increase two folds with more customers ordering triple play, if content saturation is the model for cableTV.

Eventually price and customer wealth will sort out the market shares.
