Maybe this is an introverted/extroverted issue. You're clearly introverted, and I'm too. I guess most countries in the world are dominated by introverts, but USA is dominated by extroverts. (don't look these definitions up in wikipedia, their article is full of errors, see their discussion page)

When making choices, introverts tend to look at figures and contracts, and extroverts tend to ask other people.

Large groups of introverts sometimes neglect to focus on interpersonal issues, personal communication and networking.

Large groups of extroverts sometimes neglect to focus on the importance of impersonal facts, figures, plans and contracts. I've seen extroverts who made lawyers make contracts without telling the lawyer what the contract should contain, and much worse examples.

Good decisions usually involve skills of both groups, but some organizations tend to have an overweight of one type. Market economy usually filters these away.
