SGI executives cannot trade during the last month of the quarter. The "quiet time" goes from the last month until two days after the earnings report of each quarter. The post you were responding to showed dates of Rule 144 filings which appear to have been made in September regarding trades in August.

Gary Lauer and Dave Orton are certainly in position to have known about weak server and O2 sales, respectively. Since they're limited in the timing of sales, it isn't fair to assume perfidy. Take them at face value, an indication of a good time to sell.
