My older brother used to do aquariums that were self-contained little jewels. Everything the fish needed to live were produced in the aquarium without pumps or needing to change water. But, they could only support a couple of fish. If he added more fish, or bigger fish, he exceeded the carry capacity of the closed system and everything died. At some point, we're going to reach that state with the Earth, which is a huge closed system. Perpetual growth works up to that point, but not beyond it. I'm not counting on an imaginary being to intervene. If there is one, that why he gave us brains, so, it's our problem.
