Tim,

That is a pretty intense video. Amazing what that 4 year old child was able to handle. As incredible as it was, the story struck an nerve not only for that family, but for my own. The child in the story has a diabetic Mom, who is also a dialysis patient. Though my children have never had a situation where they needed to call the ambulance while they were home alone, they have witnessed similar situations in our home. My husband is a diabetic, as is the woman in the video. The clip shows the woman explaining about two tubes that blood runs through. The video then showed marks on the woman's arm, I suspected immediately what the marks were from. It then explained that she is also a dialysis patient. It was a scene all too familiar to me. My husband was on dialysis as well for 18 months, prior to having a kidney transplant. The reason for the 4 year old in the video to call 911 was referred to as diabetic shock. For my husband that was much more common when he was on dialysis, as compared to the time prior to his kidneys failing, and what it has been like since the transplant. He is still diabetic, but the transplanted kidney is functioning well. He has been off dialysis for a little over 3 years. What a blessing the transplant has been.

It's amazing what kids can do, and what they can manage when they need to. All kids should know the importance of knowing how to call 911.
