We have already seen this movie, or at least the prequel -- the next scene involves a voiceover saying, "Forgive them father, for they know not what they do".

It's always been hard for the everyday rabble to resist the temptation of being able to swill wine and dance around the golden calf from time to time. You need to move up the class structure a bit to find the real culprits.

To wit, I blame the facilitators of this tragedy (WS & the Fed, i.e. the "pushers" of the money) more than I blame the users -- I guess that makes me a bleeding heart something-or-other, but at least I'm a bleeding heart with enough of a raw edge that I still want to roast people like Countrywide's Angelo Mozila alive on a spit.

The scariest part about all this stuff is that the last time we had a similar "disruption" (in the latter 70s - early 80s), the jumping off point into the abyss was from a considerably lower ledge. In the current situation we could probably wipe out half the country just by the prime rate being forced into double digits, much less seeing it revisit the 20% range again -- hence my genuine concern that this time it really could all come crashing down in a big heap.

It's certainly not worth making any large bets that it won't -- not yet anyways
