Washington State Pioneers Email Alert System for Bills that Raise Taxes & Fees

Washington state has implemented a system whereby citizens can sign up to automatically receive an email alert whenever a bill is introduced that would raise taxes or fees.

This is a result of a citizen initiative 960 that recently passed. So now legislators who seek to increase the burden on taxpayers are not only perpetuating bad economic policies, they are effectively bombarding citizens with emails.

As I am sure the backers of this initiative intended, this will likely result in more correspondence and testimony from taxpayers, who might otherwise have been in the dark, when these ill-advised bills are considered. And that's good because, if you speak out against a bill, you might not have to pay it.
