No, I think it will be picked up by China et al.

Having said that, I also tend to think there is one more High left in the market before it meanders down. Hopefully at that point I won't be adverse to taking positions off the table.

Actually to be more precise I'm likely to concentrate positions, such as rolling all the metal plays into something like ABX, or all the energy plays into an Exxon or whatever.

But to answer your question I think the better plays will continue to be the commodity areas in spite of an economic slowdown.

If you follow commodity charts, take as one example the chart of HG which stands for High Grade Copper. I know RIO isn't totally dependent on Copper but but it's a copper play to some extent. HG is doing well, the March Contract is about 3.58 as I type this. The contract High is 3.75 but to get some perspective at the end of January the contract was as low as 3.01

When you think of copper most think of it's application to housing which is slumping, yet the metal is rallying.

I don't think it's a short term phenomenon, rather my guess is that commodity prices still have a long way to travel. Not in a straight line, I grant you, but higher over the next 4 years to perhaps as much as 17 years.

Of course if you check back with me in 17 years I hope I'm still around to admit it if I'm wrong.
