17:36 AMAT Applied Materials: Conference Call Summary (18.07 -0.36) -Update-

On the call, the company guided Q2 EPS to be $0.18-$0.22 vs consensus of $0.22, Q2 revs to be flat to +5%, and orders to be -5% - +5%. The company says they are experiencing slower demand in semiconductors, driven by weakness in DRAM. AMAT sees DRAM being down greater than 30% in the year, foundry spending to be modestly down, and spending for logic to be flat. The company says the slowing economic growth presents a near-term challenge, with the company in a soft investment environment. However, AMAT says display may have a record year in 2008, and the company is increasing its capacity to meet demand. The company projects LCD TV market to grow better than 28%. AMAT also says demand for solar is robust, and is in talks with many new customers, and has seen repeat orders from existing customers. AMAT also expects $300-$500 mln in share repurchases in 2Q08.
