Sanjay Mehrotra, SanDisk, President and Chief Operating Officer said, “The majority of our bit production in 2008… will be two-bit-per-cell technology in terms of bit production in 2008…Since 43nm two-bit-per cell technology is lower cost than 56nm three-bit-per-cell, the vast majority of our output in 2008 will remain two-bit-per cell.”

Mehrotra went on to say that 3-bits-per-cell production would increase significantly with the migration to its 43nm process but this was not planned until sometime in 2009.

What a surprise, but heh, 3b/c is sooooo good. ;-)

at least read what you are posting yourself! Did you read what he said in the first paragraph that you just posted?

They are doing 3 b/c for the first time. They are getting their hands dirty at a mature node despite it being more costlier than 2 b/c at 43nm. 3 b/c today is what 2 b/c MLC was several years ago. In a few years 3 b/c will become mainstream just like 2 b/c is mainstream today!
