It was unlikely to be the screwcap unless something was defective. Although, it reminds me that at last year's Barrel Tasting, Dave Coffaro tried me out with three bottles of the same wine, one with a cork and one each with two different screw cap closures. The wine was a couple years old ... and all three tasted different. Both screwcaps had preserved the fruit better and one seemed to provide a bit more complexity.
