Ken,

The Trig/HDL ratio is one I haven't seen before. The report I get from my doctor always displays the Chol/HDL ratio and I'm told a safe number here is < 5.9 and mine is 2.91.

My T/HDL ratio is 1.51, up slightly from last August. I've been eating a little candy lately and I suspect that's doing it.

1.51 is still very good.

BTW, high Triglycerides are a clear indicator of something bad going on, high HDL is an indicator of something good going on. Therefore, the ratio of the Trig/HDL is a clear indicator, and yours is very good.

Total cholesterol and LDL are unclear indicators. Further information on particle size of LDL is needed (whether they are of benign fluffy kind or more dangerous dense kind) for clearer picture, which is not performed on routine cholesterol tests. This is why values or ratios having to do with total cholesterol or LDL are of more limited value.
