I'm not shifting blame and there are things that are very disappointing about this Admin. There are also tons of great people on this board who are conservative but are willing to admit a level of dissatisfaction with the way things are. Most people here don't just tow the party line and walk around with blinders on. With that in mind you must admit that there have been some extraordinary circumstances and events that have taken place that were no fault of GWB or his admin. The stock market was in freefall when he took office and this was followed by an attack that nobody could have prepared for. The measures we had to take to keep the economy moving were like nothing I've ever seen in my life. The housing bubble that ensued was a combination of low rates (which were needed) followed by banks that totally abandoned good lending practices. The war (mainly the execution and cost) has proven to be a mistake so far. It's hard to see that improving and for that I do lay blame at the feet of GWB and his admin. What will be interesting to see is what the impact of having the perfect strategic base/location (Iraq) will be in the future. Make no mistake - that's going to be our quick strike base for future events in the region and there will be future events. Energy prices have been a killer which is why I'm a proponent of finding cost effective, renewable energy sources. I don't think we can afford to line the pockets of middle eastern countries and even worse Russia with 85-95 dollar per barrel oil. Until we find those sources we're going to have to be willing to drill our known deposits and use our coal. According to things I've read the US is the Saudi Arabia of coal deposits. We need to use that and pour some of the cost savings into finding renewable energy that will break the backs of these oil producers. If we can find a way to harness solar in an efficient, cost effective way (currently the cost is twice as much to produce) then we'll solve our own issues AND we can sell that technology to the world. Essentially they'll have to come to us for their energy needs. So, for some of the reasons I mentioned above I guess I have a problem fingering Bush for all the issues and I think my take is fair.
