George Allen, former Senator from Virginia and darling of the religious right. He was preordained as the religious right's candidate for 2008 until the unfortunate "Macaca" incident (and an incredibly poorly run campaign) allowed that fighting Marine Jim Webb to unseat Mr. Allen from the Senate. This gave Huckabee a slot to fill as the candidate of the religious conservatives...also attempted to be filled by others. Alas, Mr. Allen's frontrunner status crashed much sooner than did Rudy's...
