It looks like everybody and their brother is trying to get into the handset business. That's probably the result of shrinking options as consolidation hits more and more tech areas and everyone looks for someplace to hide. If the world really does get into a recession things could turn very brutal quickly and companies that have excess capacity could find themselves with real cost problems.

With the shakeout in the HD DVD finally happening Toshiba is going to have a lot of costs associated with the dismantling of their HD DVD business. Further, in a recession one would expect the HDTV business to take a big hit as putting off that sort of cost is a no brainer for someone cash strapped. All in all I expect companies are going to be getting a lot more conservative on the CAPEX front in all areas, especially those areas losing money.

I don't know how this is going to work out, but I can see a scenario where it might work to SPSN's favor. With the lack of profits the will to compete in losing businesses should wane quickly, especially if Numonyx doesn't get funded. Given that SPSN will have a considerable cost advantage over the other NOR players, it could very well happen that SPSN takes market share faster than the NOR market declines. Of coursed that's just one scenario.
