Y: Possibly time for this "mini Berkshire", the descriptive adjective used by the media when they describe Alleghany Corp.

Primarily in the insurance business, it's one of those boring companies that just seems to keep delivering results.

I'm in for my first buy for a few shares this week. 41 years late maybe -g- According to Barron's (6/18/08) Y has delivered a "15% annualized return since 1967". Not as good as Berkshire, but fine nonetheless (imo).

No ltd.; $400M in cash. ($49/sh on a $356 stock. (Company is like Berkshire also in that it won't split its shares.))

Fwiw, I don't have any Berkshire. I like Berkshire-like [t]MKL[/t] and will add to my position if stock drops again to lows on no adverse news. I occasionally check [t]WTM[/t]; never have bought any though.
