Yes, the Founding Fathers feared organized Christianity, especially the fire and brimstone religious right type. They knew the history of Europe, where organized religions took over government and created tyrannical theocracies, often resulting in thousands of people murdered and persecuted, which by the way is the opposite of what Christ would approve of.

Almost everything about the religious right's political views is contrary to Christ's teachings. And the Founding Fathers wanted them hell out of our government and public institutions.

Believing in "God" doesn't mean you let dogmatic cult-like religions infiltrate government and make laws. That is what the Taliban did. That is un-American.
