About 3 months back, In mid November, I ended up buying a Samsung LNT5265 (that is 52") and it included a Blu Ray DVD player, BDP1400 offered as a package from Future Shop (a Bestbuy chain) here in Canada.. This was a model that was one level down from LNT5271 that I was waiting for but since that was new and here in Canada it was still being priced way too high..

The way it worked for me is since I had narrowed it down to couple of models, I was always looking for a deal and originally the Samsung package was priced at $2800 CAD, so it was ok price but not that great a deal compared to american prices on Amazon.com as a benchmark..

Coincidentally, another canadian online outfit advertised the same model for $2299 and some of us managed to talk Future Shop in a price match and not only they did that but they lived up to the original package offer which they had no reason to on a price match (BDP1400 at that time used to sell for $450). So I ended up with a great deal and for $2299 and at a price that was much better then american prices and that never happens for electronics here in Canada even after currency at par.. I am notorious for second guessing and deferring purchases so for me to jump on it you can be sure I recognize it for what it was.. In fact, since then the cheapest this TV has been offered here is $2299 but without the Blu Ray player..

I declined to take the extended warranty since it is priced way too high specially here in my opinion.. So 1 year manufacurer warranty and since my Visa gives 1 more year I thought it was an ok bet..

We are happy with the TV quality etc.. A lot of bells and whistles.. the Blu Ray DVD Player however is tad slow when it is loading the movies so you have to be patient but it plays Blu Ray and upconverts regular DVDs as well as plays DVD+R or DVD-R copies that you might have.. Another shortcoming of this particular model is if you stop the movie any where and power down the player, when you start again it does not resume.. You have to make a note of the chapter where you stopped and select to go there so if you are in a habit of watching movies in bits and pieces then it is tad annoying.. As long as you don't turn the player off, you are ok..

Incidentally, this is a great site to do research on any particular model that you might be considering..

One last point, if you are going to watch the TV from a distance of say 11 feet or so I would go with a 52 inch.. It will be a more immersive experience as they say and after a while 52 inch actually does not look all that big.. Also my suggestion would be to narrow down the models, do comparative pricing and then watch the prices so that you will recognize a deal when you see one..

FWIW..

p.s. Keep in mind these products now a days are almost PC like in that they release firmware upgrades for them to fix what ever issues crop up.. the Blu Ray and TV both have firmware upgrades out but I have not yet bothered to apply them.. You have to download the patch, burn a CD and upload them thru the player or you could actually connect these products directly thru internet and apply the upgrades..
