I think most of our satellites have some sort of homing device so that they can easily be shot down in the event of possibly falling into enemy hands or of falling on friendly heads.

It's probably an old satellite. Newer ones likely have self-destruct bombs on them. It would only take a few ounces of C4 to blow one to pieces.
